Mitsubishi’s been lying about fuel economy ratings since 1991


The mother of all confessions? Mitsubishi has just admitted to improperly testing the fuel consumption of its cars since as far back as 1991.


The malpractices by the Japanese automaker include the falsification of fuel efficiency data, according to a statement made today and reported by Automotive News


“Customers bought our cars based on incorrect fuel economy data,” Mitsubishi president Tetsuro Aikawa said during a press conference while claiming he was unaware of the improper testing. “I can’t help but apologize.”
