A Beautiful Planet: Shooting IMAX Is Hard Enough on Earth. In Space, It’s Preposterous

The IMAX 3D movie A Beautiful Planet hits theaters tomorrow, on April 29. The film was shot on the International Space Station, so unless you’re an astronaut, you’ll see views of our pale blue dot that you’ve never seen before. Mesmerizing flybys of cities at night, street lights smoldering like charcoal embers. Neon-green auroras, glowing like black-light posters. The crystal-blue waters of the Bahamas, urging you to cannonball in from orbit.

Surprisingly, A Beautiful Planet is the first IMAX space production to use digital cameras instead of film cameras.
